Admission is now open to new batches of 1-Year Certificate, 2-Years Diploma and 2-Years Advance Diploma Courses as well as 1-Year Children (6 to 12 years), 1-Year Hobby & 1-Year Refresher batches in the disciplines of Kathak, Hindustani Vocal Music and Tabla for the academic session 2015-2016 commencing as from Monday 03 August 2015 at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC), Phoenix.

As these are appreciative courses, no minimum prescribed educational qualification is required except an ability to follow instructions in English/Hindi. A non-refundable Registration fee of Rs.800/- is to be paid (in cash) at the time of enrolment.

Application forms along with detail of the courses and their timings may be obtained from IGCIC Office, Swami Sivananda Avenue, Phoenix from 21 July to 23 July 2015 between 1000 to 1200 hours and 1430 to 1630 hours.Application forms may also be downloaded from this website (link on the right).

Courses offered by IGCIC

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture has an active teaching programme in Performing Arts such as Hindustani Vocal Music, Tabla, Kathak Dance and Yoga.

The Centre conducts regular courses in Hindustani Vocal Music, Tabla, Kathak Dance at various levels as given below:

  1. One year Hobby Course
  2. One year Certificate Course
  3. Two years Diploma Course
  4. Two years Advance Diploma Course
  5. One year Refresher Course
  6. One year Children Course(6-12 years )

As for Yoga the Centre conducts Courses at the following levels:

  1. Six months Beginners Course
  2. Six months Certificate Course
  3. One year Diploma Course
  4. One year Advance Diploma Course
  5. Six months Refresher Course
  6. Six months Relaxation/Meditation Course
  7. Six months Children Course ( 8-15 years )

Qualified teachers, from India, have been appointed by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), for teaching the above arts.All the above courses have well-planned syllabi and examinations. Successful candidates are awarded Certificates on the basis of regularity in attendance and performance in the examination. No monthly fee is charged only a fixed registration fee of MRs 500/- for six months course and MRs 800/- for one year course is payable at the time of admission.

There is no age restriction and no minimum academic qualification required for the admission.These are appreciative courses given to encourage the hidden talents and bring awareness about Indian music and dance to all interested but seeking guidance.

Admissions are advertised in newspapers and in website and details are available over phone during office hours from Monday to Friday from 0845 to 1715 hrs.A Proforma is also available in the office for registering the names &addresses of all interested to be in the mailing list for the cultural programmes held by the Centre.
