Gandhi in My Life - Art and Essay Competition for Children: Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations at IGCIC Phoenix on 2 October 2013 at 1pm

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this year, the High Commission of India is organizing something a little different: We have involved school children in the celebrations, to encourage young people to think about how the Mahatma’s vision and teachings  affect their lives today.

2.  We asked local school children of all ages to participate in an arts and essay competition centred around the themes ‘Gandhi In My Life’ and ‘Be The Change You Want To See’. The result has been heartwarming – we have had entries of posters, portraits, collages, scrapbooks, and extremely thoughtful essays that have convinced us that Gandhiji continues to live in the hearts and minds of today’s children.

3.  On Wednesday, 2nd October 2013 at 1pm, you will have a chance to see the art work of the children displayed in the Exhibition Hall of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, and hear some of the children read out their prize-winning essays. Besides this, there will be a rendition of Gandhiji’s favorite devotional hymns by the teachers and students of the Centre.  The day’s programme will be followed by light refreshments.

4. We look forward to seeing you and your colleagues there .  An invitation card and detailed programme is enclosed below.

PS: Do have a look at the newly launched Gandhi Heritage Portal at , an excellent online resource which has digitized all of Gandhi’s writings and made them available to the public.
